Link had saved Hyrule and became a hero, but over time, he became restless. He decided to go on an adventure and see new places and go where no one in Hyrule had ever been. He got a little ship and very few items, and set sail. He had not been at sea for very long, when all of the sudden, a giant storm came. It was very powerful, and Link had never seen anything like it before. The ship was falling apart, and the storm did not seem to be calming. It did not look good for Link. Just when he thought all was lost, a giant flash of lightning struck Link's ship........

Link awoke to find himself in a small house with a young woman next to him. He mistakenly thought she was Zelda, for she looked much like Zelda. Her name was Marin, and she lived with her father, Tarin. She explained that he was on Koholint Island (sound familiar?). She had found Link on the beach of the island. Link went to talk to Tarin, who surprisingly knew Link's name. Link asked him how he knew, and Tarin explained that he saw it engraved on Link's shield.

With his shield in hand, he walked down to the beach where Marin had found him. There he found his sword. When he picked it up, a wise, old owl flew up. He said that he had been curious who it was that owned the sword. The owl explained a little about Koholint Island. It seemed that in the middle of the island there was a giant egg, and legends told that the all-mighty Windfish slept in the egg and that one day a hero would come to wake the Windfish. The owl explained that Link had to wake the Windfish if he ever hoped to leave the island. To wake the Wind fish, Link had to find the eight siren's instruments and play them in front of the egg and the Windfish would awaken. When this happened, Koholint Island would disappear, and Link would leave the island with the Windfish. The 8 instruments were hidden in 8 caves on the island. Link set off to find these instruments and wake the Windfish. On the way he met many friends. Weird Mr. Write, Prince Richard, Old man Ulrira, Mrs. Ulrira, and Madam Meow Meow.

After finding all of the instruments he played them in front of the egg, and it cracked open. Inside he found the nightmares. Many creatures from Link's past that Link was less than happy to see again. There were also some new enemies. Link fought and destroyed each of the nightmares. He then went on to meet the Windfish. He played the played the instruments again, and there was a sudden flash of light as Link found himself hanging onto some pieces of his raft. He looked around, looking for any signs of Koholint Island, but found none. Had it all been a dream? He suddenly heard a loud noise. He looked up to see the Windfish flying overhead.
